Description

This festive Red, White, and Blue Snack Mix is a colorful, crunchy, and sweet treat perfect for patriotic celebrations or any fun gathering. Featuring candy-coated Rice Chex, yogurt-covered pretzels and raisins, plus red, white, and blue M&Ms, this easy-to-make snack mix combines crunchy textures with creamy, sweet flavors in just 20 minutes.

Ingredients

Candy Coating

  • ½ cup red candy melts
  • ½ cup blue candy melts
  • 2 Tbsp vegetable shortening
  • 6 Tbsp confectioners sugar (divided)
  • 2 cups Rice Chex cereal (divided, 1 cup each)

Additional Mix-ins

  • ½ cup red, white, and blue M&Ms
  • ½ cup yogurt covered raisins
  • 2 cups yogurt covered pretzels

Instructions

  1. Melt Red Candy Coating: In a double boiler or microwave-safe bowl, melt ½ cup red candy melts with 1 tablespoon vegetable shortening. If microwaving, heat in 30-second increments, stirring between, until smooth and fully melted.
  2. Prepare Sugar Coating Setup: Place 3 tablespoons of powdered sugar into a large zip-close bag. Lay out parchment or wax paper on a flat surface for drying the coated cereal.
  3. Coat Red Rice Chex: Pour 1 cup of Rice Chex into the melted red candy. Gently stir until every piece is thoroughly coated.
  4. Powder Sugar Coating: Transfer the coated cereal into the zip-close bag with powdered sugar, gently toss and shake to evenly coat. Pour the coated cereal through a sieve and shake to remove excess sugar.
  5. Cool Red Coated Cereal: Spread the coated Rice Chex evenly on the parchment paper to cool and harden.
  6. Repeat for Blue Candy Coating: Repeat steps 1 through 5 using the blue candy melts, 1 tablespoon shortening, 3 tablespoons powdered sugar, and the second cup of Rice Chex cereal.
  7. Assemble Snack Mix: Once both red and blue coated Rice Chex are cooled and hardened, combine them in a large bowl along with 2 cups yogurt covered pretzels, ½ cup of the red, white & blue M&Ms, and ½ cup yogurt covered raisins. Stir gently to mix evenly.
  8. Store Properly: Transfer the snack mix to an airtight container to keep fresh until serving.

Notes

  • Use parchment or wax paper to prevent sticking and make cleanup easier.
  • Gently tossing the cereal in the powdered sugar bag helps evenly coat without breaking the pieces.
  • Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to one week.
  • You can customize this recipe with different candy melt colors or mix-ins to suit other themes.
  • If candy melts become too thick, add a small additional amount of shortening to ease melting.
