Ingredients
Tofu and Marinade
- 1 lb extra firm tofu, pressed for 30 minutes
- ⅓ cup vegetable broth
- 1 teaspoon BBQ seasoning
- 1 to 2 teaspoons poultry seasoning (vegan)
Coating
- 1 to 1 ½ tablespoons cornstarch
Sauce and Cooking
- ⅓ cup BBQ sauce
- 1 tablespoon wet jerk seasoning (Walkerswood or homemade)
- 2 teaspoons oil (for frying or coating for air frying)
Instructions
- Prepare the tofu and marinade: Tear the pressed tofu into 1-2 inch pieces in a bowl. Pour the vegetable broth, BBQ seasoning, and poultry seasoning over the tofu. Mix well and let it marinate for 30 minutes or until the liquid is mostly absorbed.
- Coat the tofu: Add cornstarch to the marinated tofu. Start with 1 tablespoon and stir to coat the tofu evenly. Add an additional ½ tablespoon if needed to ensure all pieces are coated.
- Cook the tofu (Stovetop method): Heat 2 teaspoons of oil in a pan over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the tofu pieces. Cook each side until golden brown and crispy, about 4 to 8 minutes in total.
- Optional Air Fryer method: Instead of frying, coat the tofu with oil and place in an air fryer at 400°F (200°C) for 15 minutes, tossing halfway through cooking for even crispiness.
- Add sauces: Remove the tofu from heat or air fryer and place it in a bowl while still hot. Add the BBQ sauce and wet jerk seasoning gradually—start with 1 teaspoon of jerk seasoning to control heat levels.
- Mix and let absorb: Stir the tofu thoroughly with the sauces and let it sit for about 3 minutes to absorb all the flavors.
- Serve: Serve the Jamaican Jerk Tofu hot alongside Rice and Peas for a complete, delicious meal.

- Adjust the amount of jerk seasoning to suit your heat preference, as it can be quite spicy.
- You can use the stovetop or air fryer method depending on your preference or appliance availability.
