Description

Simple and healthy steamed broccoli recipe that delivers tender, vibrant green florets perfect as a side dish or addition to meals. This easy cooking method preserves the broccoli’s nutrients and natural flavors.

Ingredients

Ingredients

  • 1 large head broccoli
  • Water for steaming (about 1 inch in pot)

Instructions

  1. Prep broccoli: Cut broccoli crowns off the large stems and separate into bite-sized florets. Rinse thoroughly under cold water to remove dirt or debris.
  2. Prep the pot: Fill a pot large enough to fit a steamer basket with about 1 inch of water. Bring the water to a boil over high heat. If you don’t have a steamer basket, you can place broccoli directly in the pot.
  3. Steam the broccoli: Place the broccoli florets in the steamer basket and position it over the boiling water. Cover with a lid, reduce heat to medium, and steam for 5 to 6 minutes until broccoli is bright green and fork-tender.
  4. Remove from heat: Take the broccoli out of the pot immediately to stop further cooking. Serve hot as a nutritious side dish or use in other recipes.

Notes

  • Do not overcook broccoli to retain its bright color and crisp texture.
  • If you prefer softer broccoli, extend steaming time by 1-2 minutes.
  • Season steamed broccoli with salt, pepper, lemon juice, or a drizzle of olive oil for extra flavor.
  • Steamed broccoli can also be cooled and added to salads or grain bowls.
