Description

This Hot Baked Taco Dip is a crowd-pleasing appetizer featuring layers of refried beans, a creamy seasoned blend of cream cheese and sour cream, melted cheddar cheese, and fresh toppings like black olives, tomatoes, green onions, and cilantro. Perfectly baked until hot and bubbly, it’s ideal for parties or game day and pairs wonderfully with crispy tortilla chips.

Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 1 16 ounce can of refried beans, any variety
  • 1 8 ounce package of cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 3 tablespoons homemade taco seasoning, or one package taco seasoning
  • ½ teaspoon minced garlic
  • ½ cup shredded cheddar cheese

Toppings

  • 1 2.25 ounce can of sliced black olives, drained
  • 1 Roma tomato, seeded and diced
  • 2 thinly sliced green onions
  • 2 tablespoons freshly chopped cilantro

To Serve

  • Tortilla chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Set your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit (175 degrees Celsius) and allow it to fully preheat while you prepare the dip layers.
  2. Layer the refried beans: In a pie plate or an 8×8-inch round or square baking dish, spread an even layer of refried beans as the base for your dip.
  3. Prepare the cream cheese mixture: In a mixing bowl, thoroughly stir together the softened cream cheese and sour cream until smooth. Then, add the taco seasoning and minced garlic, mixing well to combine all flavors evenly.
  4. Spread the cream cheese layer: Evenly spread the seasoned cream cheese and sour cream mixture over the refried beans layer in the baking dish.
  5. Add cheddar cheese and bake: Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the cream cheese layer. Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and the dip is heated through.
  6. Garnish and serve: Remove the dip from the oven. Top it with drained black olives, diced Roma tomato, sliced green onions, and freshly chopped cilantro for a fresh and colorful finish. Serve the dip warm alongside tortilla chips for dipping.

Notes

  • You can substitute the taco seasoning with your favorite brand or homemade mix to adjust the flavor to your liking.
  • For a smoother dip, you may mash the refried beans slightly before spreading them.
  • If you prefer a spicier dip, add a pinch of cayenne pepper or chopped jalapeños to the cream cheese mixture.
  • Serve immediately after baking for the best texture and flavor.
  • Leftovers can be refrigerated in an airtight container for up to 3 days and reheated before serving.
