Description

This Homemade Cheeseburger Pizza combines the classic flavors of a cheeseburger with a delightful crispy pizza crust. With a soft homemade dough, seasoned ground beef, tangy mayo-ketchup sauce, melted colby jack cheese, dill pickle slices, and a hint of mustard, this recipe is a crowd-pleaser perfect for family dinners or casual gatherings.

Ingredients

Pizza Dough

  • 1 3/4 cup all purpose flour
  • 1 pizza crust yeast (1/4 oz. pkg.)
  • 1 1/2 tsp sugar
  • 3/4 tsp salt
  • 2/3 cup very warm water
  • 3 tbsp olive oil

Toppings and Sauce

  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp sesame seeds
  • 1/2 lb. ground beef
  • 1 tsp seasoned salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 onion, diced
  • 1/4 cup mayo
  • 4 tbsp ketchup (divided)
  • 1 tsp hot sauce
  • 2 cups colby jack cheese, shredded
  • 1/2 cup dill pickle chips, sliced and drained
  • Mustard, to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven and Prepare Pan: Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Lightly grease a 12-inch pizza pan and set it aside to prepare for the dough.
  2. Make the Pizza Dough: In a large bowl, combine 1 cup of the flour with the undissolved yeast, sugar, and salt. Add the very warm water and olive oil. Mix everything thoroughly for about one minute until well combined.
  3. Form the Dough: Gradually add the remaining flour until a soft dough ball forms. The dough should be slightly sticky but manageable.
  4. Knead the Dough: Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface. Knead it for about 4 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic. Add more flour if necessary to prevent sticking.
  5. Shape the Dough: Press and spread the dough to fit the prepared pizza pan evenly, forming the base for your pizza.
  6. Prepare Egg Wash and Crust: Beat the egg with 1 tablespoon of water to create an egg wash. Brush this mixture over the edges of the dough. Then, sprinkle the sesame seeds on the crust edges for a lovely golden finish.
  7. Cook the Ground Beef: In a skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef along with seasoned salt, black pepper, and diced onion. Cook until no pink remains and then drain off excess fat.
  8. Make the Sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together the mayo, 2 1/2 tablespoons of ketchup, and hot sauce until smooth. Spread this mixture evenly over the pizza dough base using the back of a spoon.
  9. Assemble the Pizza: Spread the cooked ground beef evenly over the sauce layer. Generously sprinkle the shredded colby jack cheese on top. Drizzle the remaining 1 1/2 tablespoons ketchup and mustard over the cheese. Finally, distribute the drained dill pickle chips evenly across the pizza.
  10. Bake the Pizza: Place the pizza in the preheated oven and bake for 12 to 15 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and the crust is golden brown. Remove from oven and allow it to cool slightly before slicing.

Notes

  • You can substitute Colby Jack cheese with a mix of mozzarella and cheddar for a different flavor profile.
  • Adjust the amount of hot sauce based on your preferred spice level.
  • Ensure the water for the yeast is warm but not hot to activate the yeast properly without killing it.
  • The pickles add a tangy crunch, so don’t skip them or substitute with your favorite burger pickles.
  • For a crispier crust, consider pre-baking the dough for 5 minutes before adding toppings.
