Description

Homemade Asian Garlic Noodles are a quick and flavorful dish featuring tender noodles tossed in a rich garlic butter sauce enhanced with oyster sauce, soy sauces, fish sauce, and a hint of sweetness from brown sugar. Garnished with Parmesan cheese, green onions, and optional chili flakes and sesame seeds, this recipe delivers a perfect balance of savory, umami, and mildly spicy flavors in just 20 minutes.

Ingredients

Noodles

  • 8-10 ounces Asian style noodles (such as egg noodles or chow mein noodles)

Sauce

  • 2 tablespoons oyster sauce
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon dark soy sauce (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons fish sauce
  • ¼ teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • ¼ teaspoon white pepper

Other Ingredients

  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 6 cloves fresh garlic, minced
  • ⅓ cup Parmesan cheese, grated
  • ¼ cup green onions, sliced
  • ½ teaspoon red chili flakes (optional)
  • Sesame seeds for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Cook Noodles: Boil the Asian style noodles according to the package instructions until al dente. Reserve 1 cup of the boiling noodle water before draining. Rinse the noodles under cold water to stop cooking and set aside.
  2. Prepare Sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together oyster sauce, soy sauce, dark soy sauce (if using), fish sauce, sesame oil, brown sugar, and white pepper until well combined. Set aside.
  3. Sauté Garlic: Melt the butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and cook for 30-60 seconds until fragrant but not browned.
  4. Add Sauce to Garlic Butter: Pour the prepared sauce into the skillet with the garlic butter. Stir well and bring to a gentle simmer.
  5. Toss Noodles in Sauce: Add the cooked noodles to the skillet. Gently toss them in the sauce to evenly coat the noodles. Remove from heat.
  6. Adjust Sauce Consistency: Incorporate some of the reserved noodle water to the pan to loosen the sauce to your desired consistency. If needed, add water, vegetable broth, or chicken broth to thin out the sauce further.
  7. Finish and Garnish: Sprinkle the grated Parmesan cheese, sliced green onions, and red chili flakes (if using) over the noodles. Toss gently to combine.
  8. Serve Immediately: Serve the noodles hot, garnished with sesame seeds if desired, for the best texture and flavor.

Notes

  • Use Asian style noodles such as egg noodles or chow mein noodles for authentic texture and flavor.
  • The dark soy sauce adds depth but can be omitted if unavailable.
  • Adjust chili flakes according to your spice preference.
  • Parmesan cheese adds a unique savory twist but can be left out for a dairy-free option.
  • Reserving noodle water helps to adjust sauce thickness for a perfect silky finish.
  • Serving immediately ensures the noodles remain tender and the sauce stays glossy.
