Description

This Hibachi Shrimp recipe features succulent shrimp marinated in a flavorful blend of sesame oil, soy sauce, garlic, ginger, and brown sugar, then stir-fried to perfection and finished with butter and fresh lemon juice. It’s a quick and easy dish perfect for a delicious weeknight meal or entertaining guests.

Ingredients

Shrimp and Marinade

  • 1 pound raw shrimp (tails removed)
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon minced garlic
  • 1 teaspoon minced ginger
  • 1 tablespoon light brown sugar (packed)
  • 1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice

For Cooking

  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil (or olive oil)
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • Sesame seeds (optional garnish)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Shrimp: Pat the shrimp dry thoroughly using clean paper towels to remove excess moisture, which helps in getting a good sear during cooking.
  2. Make the Marinade: In a small bowl, combine sesame oil, soy sauce, minced garlic, minced ginger, and light brown sugar. Mix until the sugar is dissolved and the ingredients are well incorporated.
  3. Marinate the Shrimp: Pour the prepared marinade over the dried shrimp and stir gently to coat all the shrimp evenly. Allow the shrimp to marinate for 5-10 minutes to absorb the flavors.
  4. Heat the Pan: Place a wok or large skillet over medium-high heat and add the vegetable or olive oil. Let the oil heat until shimmering but not smoking.
  5. Stir-Fry the Shrimp: Add the marinated shrimp to the hot pan. Stir-fry the shrimp continuously for 3-4 minutes or until they turn pink and are fully cooked through.
  6. Add Lemon and Butter: Squeeze fresh lemon juice over the cooked shrimp, then add the unsalted butter to the pan. Stir the shrimp until the butter melts and coats all the shrimp evenly, enhancing flavor and texture.
  7. Serve: Remove the shrimp from heat and transfer to serving plates. Garnish with sesame seeds if desired and serve immediately for best taste.

Notes

  • Ensure shrimp are patted dry before marinating to achieve a better sear.
  • Do not overcook shrimp as they can become rubbery—only cook until pink and opaque.
  • You can substitute light brown sugar with honey or maple syrup for a different sweetness profile.
  • Adjust soy sauce amount for a lower sodium version.
  • Serve with steamed rice or stir-fried vegetables for a complete meal.
