Description
This Gingery Ground Beef Soboro Donburi is a quick and flavorful Japanese-inspired dish featuring savory ground beef cooked with fresh ginger, soy sauce, and sweet brown sugar. Combined with tender peas and served over steamed rice, it makes a satisfying and easy weeknight meal ready in just 25 minutes.
Ingredients
Ground Beef Mixture
- 1 pound 90/10 ground beef
- ¼ cup low sodium soy sauce or tamari
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon minced peeled fresh ginger
- ¼ cup water
Vegetables
- 1 cup frozen peas
To Serve
- cooked rice (optional)
Instructions
- Cook the Beef Mixture: In a large skillet over medium-high heat, add the ground beef, soy sauce, water, brown sugar, and minced ginger. Break up the beef with a wooden spoon and cook until the beef is thoroughly browned and most of the liquid has evaporated, about 8 minutes.
- Add the Peas: Stir in the frozen peas and continue cooking for another 5 minutes, or until the peas are heated through and the liquid has mostly evaporated.
- Serve: Spoon the gingery ground beef over cooked rice if desired, and enjoy your hearty soboro donburi.
Notes
- Use low sodium soy sauce or tamari for better control over saltiness.
- Fresh minced ginger adds vibrant flavor but you can substitute with ground ginger if necessary.
- For a lower fat option, use lean ground beef (90/10 or leaner).
- Serving it over steamed white or brown rice makes it a complete meal.
- Feel free to add additional vegetables like finely chopped carrots or green onions for extra color and texture.
- Leftovers can be refrigerated up to 3 days and are reheated well.
