Description
This Easy 3-Ingredient Strawberry Chia Jam is a healthy, naturally sweetened jam made with fresh strawberries, honey, and chia seeds. It’s a quick and simple recipe ideal for those looking to enjoy a homemade jam without added preservatives or pectin. The chia seeds provide a gelatinous texture along with fiber, protein, and Omega-3 fats, making it a nutritious and delicious topping for toast, crackers, yogurt, or ice cream.
Ingredients
Jam Ingredients
- 1 pound fresh strawberries, washed, hulled, and sliced
- 3 tbsp honey (add 1 more tablespoon if you prefer a sweeter jam; vegan honey substitute can be used)
- 2 tbsp chia seeds
Instructions
- Heat strawberries and honey: Heat a medium saucepan over medium heat and add the strawberries. Pour in the honey and place on the stove over medium heat.
- Softening the strawberries: As the strawberries begin to soften, stir them regularly to mix with their juices and the honey.
- Mash the softened berries: When the berries start to fall apart, use a potato masher or fork to break them down further.
- Bring to a slow boil: Let the mixture simmer, stirring almost continuously. Once big bubbles appear on the surface, it’s time to add the chia seeds.
- Add chia seeds: Incorporate the chia seeds which will thicken the jam and add fiber, protein, and Omega-3 fats.
- Simmer and thicken: Continue stirring the mixture over low heat for about 15 minutes to allow it to thicken.
- Remove from heat and cool: Take the pan off the stove once thickened. You can leave the jam chunkier with fruit pieces at this point.
- Optional blending: For a smoother jam, pulse the mixture a few times in a blender or use an immersion blender briefly.
- Cool and refrigerate: Pour the jam into a mason jar. Let it cool to room temperature, then refrigerate for a few hours to set the perfect texture.
- Serve and enjoy: Use your strawberry chia jam on toast, gluten-free crackers, scones, yogurt, or ice cream for a wholesome treat.
Notes
- Adjust sweetness by adding an extra tablespoon of honey if desired.
- Use a vegan honey substitute to make the recipe vegan-friendly.
- This jam needs refrigeration and should be consumed within 2 weeks.
- The jam thickens further as it cools and chills due to the chia seeds.
- Choose fresh, ripe strawberries for best flavor and natural sweetness.
- For smoother jam texture, blend briefly but avoid over-blending to preserve some texture.
