Description
A simple and refreshing recipe for making delicious everyday cold brew coffee at home using either a French press or a strainer and paper filter method. This cold brew requires minimal preparation and infuses coffee slowly over 12-14 hours to create a smooth, rich, and less acidic coffee concentrate perfect for iced lattes or enjoyed chilled.
Ingredients
Ingredients
- 3/4 Cup (70g) Coarse Ground Coffee
- 3 Cups (610g) Water (room temperature or cold)
Instructions
- Prepare Coffee Grounds: Measure 3/4 cup of coarse ground coffee and pour 3 cups of filtered water (room temperature or cold) over the grounds in your desired container.
- French Press Method: Add coffee grounds to the French press, pour the water over, gently press the plunger just slightly to submerge grounds below the surface but keep them near the top. No stirring required. Cover and let steep at room temperature for 12-14 hours.
- Press the Coffee: After steeping, slowly press the plunger down to separate the grounds from the brewed coffee.
- Transfer and Discard Grounds: Discard the coffee grounds into a compost bin or garden. Pour the cold brew concentrate into a mason jar or glass carafe for storage.
- Strainer and Paper Filter Method: Add coffee grounds to a 1-quart or 1-liter container, pour water over grounds just to submerge them fully. Cover and let steep at room temperature for 12-14 hours.
- Filter the Cold Brew: Place a fine mesh strainer over a spouted container and line it with a coffee filter, nut bag, or reusable stainless steel filter. Stir the steeped coffee gently, then pour through the filter slowly, using a spatula to press if needed without tearing the paper filter.
- Discard the Filter and Grounds: Dispose of the used coffee grounds and filter into compost or garden. Transfer the strained cold brew into a mason jar or glass carafe.
- Store: Refrigerate the cold brew for up to one week.
- Serve Iced Cold Brew Latte: Pour cold brew over ice, dilute with water or milk of choice (homemade cashew milk recommended), and sweeten with maple syrup or simple syrup if desired.
