Ingredients
Salmon
- 1 lb (450 g) salmon (fresh or frozen and thawed)
Seasoning & Oil
- 1 tbsp (15 ml) olive oil
- 1 tbsp (15 g) chili lime seasoning (or substitute chili powder + fresh lime juice when serving)
- Salt (to taste)
Toppings
- Fresh lime juice (for topping, optional)
Instructions
- Season the salmon: Pat the salmon dry with paper towels to remove any excess moisture. In a small bowl, combine the chili lime seasoning or chili powder with salt. Gently rub this seasoning mixture evenly over all sides of the salmon fillets using your hands to ensure good coverage.
- Cook the salmon: Preheat a cast-iron skillet over medium heat and add the olive oil. Once the oil is hot and shimmering, carefully place the salmon fillets skin side down in the skillet. Let them cook undisturbed for 4-5 minutes to develop a crispy skin. Flip the salmon and cook for an additional 3-4 minutes until the flesh is opaque and flakes easily with a fork.
- Rest and serve: Remove the salmon from the skillet and let it rest for 2-3 minutes, allowing the juices to redistribute. Serve the salmon topped with freshly squeezed lime juice for an extra burst of brightness, especially if you used chili powder instead of the chili lime seasoning. The skin can be eaten or removed based on your preference.
Notes
- Ensure the salmon is completely dry before seasoning to get a crispy skin.
- You can substitute chili lime seasoning with chili powder and freshly squeezed lime juice if preferred.
- If using frozen salmon, make sure it is fully thawed before cooking for even cooking and best texture.
- The salmon skin is edible and becomes crispy when cooked in the skillet, but can be removed if desired.
- Serve with a side of steamed vegetables or a fresh salad for a complete meal.
