Description

A flavorful and quick Beef Lo Mein recipe featuring tender beef strips, fresh vegetables, and a savory sauce tossed with perfectly cooked lo mein noodles. Ready in just 30 minutes, this classic Chinese-American stir-fried noodle dish is perfect for a satisfying weeknight meal.

Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 8 oz lo mein noodles (cooked according to package instructions)
  • 1 lb beef, thinly sliced into strips
  • 2 large carrots, diced into two-inch pieces
  • 2 cups broccoli florets, diced into two-inch pieces
  • 1 large onion, diced into two-inch pieces
  • 4 garlic cloves, pressed or minced

Sauce and Seasonings

  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 1/4 cup hot boiled water
  • 1 tbsp Beef Better Than Bouillon
  • 3 tbsp soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar

For Frying

  • Oil (olive or sesame) as needed for frying

Instructions

  1. Prepare the sauce: In a bowl, add the 1/4 cup hot boiled water. Stir in 1 tbsp Beef Better Than Bouillon and 2 tbsp brown sugar until dissolved. Then add 3 tbsp soy sauce and set the sauce mixture aside.
  2. Cook the beef: Preheat a hot skillet and add 1 tsp sesame oil. Add the thinly sliced beef strips and cook until golden brown on all sides. Once cooked, remove beef from skillet and set aside.
  3. Sauté the vegetables: In the same skillet, add a splash of oil and sauté the diced onions until they turn golden brown, then remove and set aside. Next, add more oil if needed and sauté the diced carrots until they begin to soften. Add the broccoli and cook for approximately 3 minutes until tender-crisp. Return the onions to the skillet and add the pressed garlic, stirring everything together.
  4. Combine beef and vegetables with sauce: Add the cooked beef back into the skillet with the vegetables. Pour the prepared sauce over the mixture and let it simmer gently for about 2 minutes to blend the flavors.
  5. Add noodles and toss: Add the cooked lo mein noodles to the skillet and toss everything thoroughly to coat the noodles evenly with the sauce, beef, and vegetables.
  6. Serve: Transfer the combined noodles, beef, and vegetables into a large serving dish. Toss once more to combine and serve immediately while hot.

Notes

  • Use fresh vegetables for best flavor and texture.
  • Beef strips should be cut thinly to ensure quick cooking and tenderness.
  • If lo mein noodles are unavailable, spaghetti can be used as a substitute.
  • Adjust soy sauce quantity to taste if a less salty flavor is preferred.
  • For extra heat, add chili flakes or a dash of chili oil during the vegetable sauté stage.
