Ingredients
Slider Base
- 12 King’s Hawaiian slider buns, split in half
Filling
- 4 cups cooked chicken, shredded
- 1 cup favorite BBQ sauce, divided
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 1 cup mozzarella, grated
- ¼ red onion, thinly sliced
- ½ cup smoked gouda, grated (or cheese of choice)
- 2 tablespoons fresh cilantro leaves, roughly chopped
Butter Topping
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted and divided
Instructions
- Prepare Oven and Baking Dish: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 9×13-inch baking dish with parchment paper, then lightly spray the parchment paper with nonstick cooking spray to prevent sticking.
- Arrange Slider Buns: Place the bottom halves of the 12 King’s Hawaiian slider buns evenly in the prepared baking dish, creating the base for the sliders.
- Mix Chicken Filling: In a small bowl, combine the 4 cups of shredded cooked chicken with ½ cup of your favorite BBQ sauce. Season this mixture with salt and pepper to taste, then gently mix until the chicken is thoroughly coated with the sauce.
- Assemble Fillings on Buns: Evenly spread the BBQ chicken mixture over the bottom halves of the slider buns. Then, drizzle the remaining ½ cup of BBQ sauce over the chicken layer for extra flavor.
- Add Cheese and Toppings: Sprinkle 1 cup of grated mozzarella evenly over the chicken and sauce. Distribute the thinly sliced ¼ red onion, ½ cup grated smoked gouda, and 2 tablespoons chopped fresh cilantro leaves evenly on top to add layers of flavor and texture.
- Top with Buns and Butter: Place the top halves of the slider buns over the filling to close each slider. Using a pastry brush, brush 1 tablespoon of melted unsalted butter over the tops of the buns to help achieve a golden crust.
- Bake Covered: Cover the baking dish tightly with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 15 minutes to warm the filling and melt the cheese.
- Finish Baking Uncovered: Carefully remove the foil cover and brush the tops of the buns with the remaining 1 tablespoon of melted butter. Return the dish to the oven and bake uncovered for an additional 10 minutes or until the buns are nicely golden brown.
- Serve: Remove from oven and serve the sliders immediately while warm and gooey for the best taste experience.
