Description

Crispy and flavorful bagel croutons made by toasting bite-sized pieces of day-old bagels in olive oil and salt. Perfect for adding a crunchy texture to salads, soups, or as a snack.

Ingredients

Bagel Croutons Ingredients

  • 2 plain bagels (about 8 ounces total), preferably day-old, torn or cut into bite-size pieces (about 4 cups)
  • 2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
  • Salt, to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Heat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Prepare a rimmed sheet pan for baking.
  2. Toss Bagel Pieces: On the sheet pan, toss the bagel pieces with the olive oil and salt until each piece is well coated with the oil and seasoning.
  3. Bake Croutons: Spread the bagel pieces out in a single layer on the pan. Bake for 10 to 15 minutes, tossing once halfway through the baking time, until the pieces are crunchy and golden brown.
  4. Adjust Seasoning and Cool: Taste a crouton and add more salt if needed. Allow the croutons to cool on the pan before serving or storing.

Notes

  • Using day-old bagels ensures they dry out properly and become crunchy without becoming too soft.
  • You can experiment with different types of bagels such as sesame or everything bagels for varied flavors.
  • Store cooled bagel croutons in an airtight container for up to one week to maintain crispiness.
  • These croutons are a great alternative to traditional bread croutons and add a unique texture and flavor to dishes.
