Ingredients
Noodles
- 8-10 ounces Asian style noodles
Sauce
- 2 tablespoons oyster sauce
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon dark soy sauce (optional)
- 2 tablespoons fish sauce
- 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
- ¼ teaspoon sesame oil
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- ¼ teaspoon white pepper
Other Ingredients
- 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 6 cloves fresh garlic, minced
- ⅓ cup Parmesan cheese, grated
- ¼ cup green onions, sliced
- ½ teaspoon red chili flakes (optional)
- Sesame seeds for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Cook the noodles: Cook the noodles or pasta to al dente following package instructions. Reserve 1 cup of the boiling noodle water, then drain and rinse the noodles with cold water. Set aside.
- Prepare the sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together oyster sauce, soy sauce, dark soy sauce (if using), fish sauce, Worcestershire sauce, sesame oil, brown sugar, and white pepper until well combined. Set aside.
- Sauté garlic and combine sauce: Melt the butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and cook until fragrant, about 30 to 60 seconds. Pour the prepared sauce into the skillet, stirring well and bringing it to a gentle simmer.
- Toss noodles with sauce: Add the cooked noodles to the skillet with the simmering sauce. Gently toss to coat the noodles evenly with the sauce. Remove from heat.
- Adjust sauce consistency: Add reserved noodle water a little at a time to the skillet to reach your desired sauce consistency. If it becomes too thick, add additional water, vegetable broth, or chicken broth as needed.
- Add toppings: Sprinkle the grated Parmesan cheese, sliced green onions, and red chili flakes over the noodles. Gently mix to distribute evenly.
- Serve: Serve the Asian garlic noodles immediately, garnished with sesame seeds if desired.
Notes
- Use Asian style noodles such as egg noodles, udon, or lo mein for best results.
- Dark soy sauce adds extra color and depth but can be omitted if unavailable.
- Adjust the amount of red chili flakes to control spiciness.
- Sauce can be thinned with water or broth to suit preference.
- For a vegetarian option, substitute oyster sauce and fish sauce with vegetarian alternatives.
