Description

This Stuffed Italian Meatloaf is a savory and satisfying dinner centerpiece, combining seasoned ground beef and sausage with a cheesy mozzarella-spinach filling and marinara-Parmesan topping. It’s rich, flavorful, and perfect for cozy family meals.

Ingredients

lbs ground beef

½ lb ground Italian sausage

1 small onion, finely chopped

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 cup bread crumbs

2 large eggs

½ cup grated Parmesan cheese

2 Tbsp Italian seasoning

1 Tbsp chopped parsley

½ cup milk

Salt and pepper, to taste

1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese (filling)

1 cup chopped spinach (filling, optional)

¼ cup marinara sauce (filling)

½ cup marinara sauce (topping)

¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese (topping)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375 °F (190 °C).
  2. In a large bowl, combine ground beef, Italian sausage, onion, garlic, bread crumbs, eggs, Parmesan, Italian seasoning, parsley, milk, salt, and pepper. Mix until fully combined.
  3. Shape the mixture into a 9×12-inch rectangle on a baking sheet.
  4. Create a well in the center and fill with mozzarella, spinach (optional), and ¼ cup marinara.
  5. Fold meat over the filling, sealing edges tightly to enclose.
  6. Spread ½ cup marinara over the top and sprinkle with Parmesan cheese.
  7. Bake for 45–55 minutes until internal temperature reaches 160 °F (71 °C).
  8. Let rest 10 minutes before slicing. Serve warm with extra marinara if desired.

Notes

  • Seal the loaf well to prevent filling leaks.
  • Use lean meats for a lighter version or mix in turkey/chicken sausage.
  • Spinach is optional—swap with other veggies like peppers or mushrooms.
  • Add pepperoni or chili flakes to the filling for a spicy twist.
  • Resting before slicing helps retain juices and shape.
