Description

Strawberry Puppy Chow is a delightful and colorful snack mix made by coating Rice Chex cereal with rich vanilla almond bark and pink strawberry candy melts, then dusted with powdered sugar and mixed with freeze-dried strawberries, white chocolate chips, and Oreo chunks. Perfect for parties or a sweet treat, this easy-to-make recipe takes just 10 minutes to prepare.

Ingredients

Cereal and Coating Ingredients

  • 8 cups Rice Chex cereal (divided into 4 cups each)
  • 1 cup Vanilla almond bark
  • 1 cup Pink strawberry candy melts
  • ⅔ cup Powdered sugar (divided into two ⅓ cups)

Add-ins

  • 1 oz Freeze dried strawberries
  • 1 cup White chocolate chips
  • 20 vanilla Oreos (broken into chunks)

Instructions

  1. Divide the Cereal: Place 4 cups of Rice Chex cereal into one gallon-size resealable bag and the remaining 4 cups into a second bag, preparing for two separate coatings.
  2. Melt Vanilla Almond Bark: In a microwave-safe bowl, heat the vanilla almond bark in 30-second intervals, stirring between each, until fully melted and smooth.
  3. Coat with Almond Bark: Pour the melted almond bark into one of the cereal bags, seal tightly, and shake vigorously to evenly coat all the cereal pieces.
  4. Add Powdered Sugar to Almond Bark Coated Cereal: Add ⅓ cup of powdered sugar to the coated cereal in the bag, reseal, and shake again until the cereal is fully covered with powdered sugar.
  5. Melt Strawberry Candy Melts: In another microwave-safe bowl, melt the pink strawberry candy melts using the same 30-second interval method, stirring well until smooth.
  6. Coat with Strawberry Candy Melts: Pour the melted candy melts into the second bag of cereal, seal, and shake thoroughly to coat every piece.
  7. Add Powdered Sugar to Strawberry Candy Melts Coated Cereal: Add the remaining ⅓ cup of powdered sugar to this bag, reseal, and shake until the cereal pieces are evenly dusted.
  8. Combine and Add Mix-ins: Pour both bags of coated cereal into a large mixing bowl. Add the freeze-dried strawberries, white chocolate chips, and broken vanilla Oreo chunks. Gently toss everything together to mix evenly without breaking the pieces.
  9. Serve and Enjoy: Your Strawberry Puppy Chow is ready to be enjoyed immediately or stored in an airtight container for later snacking.

Notes

  • For best results, make sure to shake the bags thoroughly at each step to evenly coat the cereal pieces.
  • You can substitute vanilla almond bark with white chocolate melts if preferred.
  • Be gentle while mixing in the Oreos to avoid crushing them too finely.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week.
  • Freeze-dried strawberries add an intense strawberry flavor and crunch but can be omitted if unavailable.
