Ingredients
Main Ingredients
- 1 pound asparagus
- 1-1/2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
Optional Toppings
- Panko breadcrumbs (quantity as desired)
- Grated Parmesan cheese (quantity as desired)
Instructions
- Prepare: Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) and prepare a large sheet pan for roasting.
- Prepare Asparagus: Rinse the asparagus under cold water and dry thoroughly by rolling them between two kitchen towels. Snap off the woody ends of each spear by bending them until they naturally break.
- Season: Lay the asparagus in a single layer on the sheet pan. Drizzle with olive oil and sprinkle salt, pepper, and garlic powder evenly over the spears. Toss with your hands to coat them well.
- Add Optional Toppings: If desired, sprinkle panko breadcrumbs and grated Parmesan cheese evenly over the asparagus. Toss gently to coat the spears without displacing the toppings.
- Space Out: Arrange the asparagus so they lie in a single layer, ensuring they do not overlap. It’s fine if some panko or Parmesan falls onto the pan.
- Roast: Place the sheet pan in the oven and roast for 7 to 11 minutes until the asparagus is tender, slightly browned, and the cheese has melted. Cooking time depends on the thickness of the asparagus.
- Finish: Transfer the roasted asparagus to a serving plate. Sprinkle any toasted breadcrumb bits remaining on the pan over the asparagus. If you haven’t used the panko and Parmesan topping, drizzle freshly squeezed lemon juice over the asparagus and optionally sprinkle Parmesan cheese for extra flavor.
- Serve: Enjoy the asparagus immediately while hot as a delicious side dish.
Notes
- Adjust the amount of olive oil and seasoning to your preference.
- Panko breadcrumbs add a crunchy texture but are optional.
- Parmesan cheese enhances the flavor with a savory, cheesy topping.
- Fresh lemon juice added after roasting brightens the flavors and complements the asparagus well.
- For thicker asparagus spears, increase roasting time slightly for tenderness.
- This recipe pairs well with grilled meats, roasted chicken, or fish.
