Ideal for weeknight dinners or special occasions, it’s a delicious and comforting meal that’s sure to please everyone.

Ingredients

1 lb ground beef (lean is best)

5 cloves garlic, minced

1/3 cup brown sugar

1/4 cup beef broth

1/3 cup soy sauce (low sodium preferred)

3 tablespoons hoisin sauce

1/2 teaspoon ground ginger

1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper

Pinch of red pepper flakes (optional)

10 oz linguine (or spaghetti/rice noodles for gluten-free)

1 tablespoon cornstarch

2 tablespoons water

4 green onions, sliced (for garnish)

Instructions

  • Cook the Pasta:

    • In a large pot of salted, boiling water, cook the linguine (or your preferred pasta) according to package instructions. Drain and set aside.

  • Brown the Ground Beef:

    • While the pasta cooks, heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and cook, breaking it up into small pieces, until browned. Drain excess fat and reduce heat to medium.

  • Add Garlic and Aromatics:

    • Add minced garlic to the skillet and sauté for 1 minute until fragrant. Then, add soy sauce, beef broth, brown sugar, hoisin sauce, ginger, black pepper, and red pepper flakes. Stir well to combine.

  • Thicken the Sauce:

    • In a small bowl, mix the cornstarch with water to form a smooth slurry. Add this to the skillet and stir. Let the sauce simmer for a few minutes until it thickens.

  • Combine with Noodles:

    • Add the drained linguine to the skillet and toss thoroughly to coat the noodles in the sauce. Let everything simmer together for 2-3 minutes to absorb the flavors.

  • Garnish and Serve:

    • Garnish with sliced green onions before serving hot.

Notes

For a gluten-free version, use gluten-free soy sauce and rice noodles.

Add vegetables like bell peppers, broccoli, or snap peas for extra flavor and nutrition.

If you like a spicier dish, add more red pepper flakes or a dash of sriracha.
