Description

Learn how to make fresh and natural coconut milk at home using three different methods: from fresh or dried coconut meat, from shredded coconut, and from coconut milk powder. This simple guide provides quick and easy steps to create rich and creamy coconut milk, perfect for cooking, baking, or enjoying as a beverage.

Ingredients

Coconut Milk from Fresh or Dried Coconut

  • 1 cup diced fresh coconut meat
  • 2 cups filtered water

Coconut Milk from Shredded Coconut

  • 1 cup shredded coconut
  • 2 cups filtered water

Coconut Milk from Coconut Milk Powder

  • 3 tablespoons coconut milk powder
  • 1 cup hot filtered water

Instructions

  1. Coconut Milk from Fresh or Dried Coconut: Place the diced fresh or dried coconut meat into a high-speed blender or food processor. Add 2 cups of filtered water to the blender and puree the mixture until the coconut meat is fully blended into a smooth consistency.
  2. Strain the Coconut Milk: Pour the blended mixture through a fine sieve, cheesecloth, or nut milk bag to separate the coconut milk from the pulp. Collect the coconut milk in a container and store it in the refrigerator for use.
  3. Coconut Milk from Coconut Milk Powder: In a bowl, mix 3 tablespoons of coconut milk powder with 1 cup of hot filtered water. Stir thoroughly until the powder is fully dissolved and the mixture is smooth. Transfer to an airtight container and store it in a cool place or refrigerator.

Notes

  • Use fresh, young coconuts if possible for sweeter and creamier milk.
  • The leftover coconut pulp can be dried and used in baking or cooking.
  • Shake or stir the homemade coconut milk before each use, as separation may occur naturally.
  • Coconut milk made from powder may have a slightly different taste and consistency than freshly blended coconut milk.
  • Store homemade coconut milk in the refrigerator and consume within 2-3 days for freshness.
