Description

Honey Butter Chicken is a delicious, crispy fried chicken dish coated in a rich and sweet honey butter sauce. This recipe features tender chicken pieces seasoned and fried to golden perfection, then tossed in a luscious caramelized blend of honey, butter, soy sauce, and vinegar, creating a perfect balance of sweet, savory, and tangy flavors. Ideal for a comforting dinner served alongside steamed rice and fresh green beans.

Ingredients

Chicken Coating

  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp ground black pepper
  • 1 lb chicken breasts, cut into 1-inch pieces

Cooking

  • 1 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 1 tbsp canola oil (or any light oil)

Honey Butter Sauce

  • 5 tbsp butter, room temperature
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/8 tsp ground black pepper

Garnish and Serving

  • 1 tbsp green onions, sliced
  • White rice, for serving
  • Sautéed green beans, for serving

Instructions

  1. Season the chicken: In a large bowl, combine the flour, garlic powder, cayenne pepper, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. Add the chicken pieces and mix until they are thoroughly coated with the seasoned flour.
  2. Fry the chicken: Heat butter and canola oil in a large cast iron skillet over medium heat. Shake off excess flour from the chicken pieces and arrange them in a single layer in the pan. Fry each side for 2-3 minutes or until golden brown and cooked through. Remove the chicken from the pan and set aside.
  3. Prepare the honey butter sauce: Lower the heat to low. Add the remaining butter to the same skillet and allow it to melt. Stir in honey, soy sauce, apple cider vinegar, salt, and black pepper.
  4. Cook the sauce: Stir continuously over low heat until the sauce thickens to a smooth, caramel-like consistency. Add the fried chicken back into the skillet and coat each piece evenly with the sauce. Once coated, turn off the heat and let the chicken rest in the sauce for 5 minutes.
  5. Serve: Transfer the honey butter chicken to a serving platter. Garnish with sliced green onions. Serve alongside steamed white rice and sautéed green beans for a complete meal.

Notes

  • Ensure chicken pieces are evenly coated with flour mixture for a crispy exterior.
  • Do not overcrowd the skillet while frying to maintain crispiness.
  • Adjust cayenne pepper to control spiciness level according to taste.
  • Letting the chicken rest in the sauce allows flavors to meld beautifully.
  • This dish pairs well with neutral sides like rice and veggies to balance the sweetness.
