Description

These Grilled Cheese Sliders using soft and sweet Hawaiian rolls are an easy and delicious snack or meal option. Featuring layers of melty cheese and optional fillings like ham, turkey, or caramelized onions, they’re perfect baked on a sheet pan or cooked in a skillet for a golden, crispy crust. Simple ingredients combine to create bite-sized, irresistible sandwiches that are perfect for parties, lunches, or quick dinners.

Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 1 package Hawaiian rolls (12-count)
  • 46 tablespoons salted butter, melted
  • 810 slices cheese (cheddar, provolone, Swiss, pepper jack, or mozzarella)

Optional Fillings

  • Slices of ham or turkey
  • Caramelized onions
  • Tomato slices
  • Pesto

Optional Seasonings

  • Sea salt
  • Garlic powder

Instructions

  1. Slice the rolls: Without separating the rolls, slice the entire package of Hawaiian rolls horizontally into three even layers using a serrated knife. Then separate all 12 rolls into individual slices, resulting in 36 slices total, enough for 18 sliders.
  2. Butter and layer: Brush the bottom layer of slices generously with melted butter. Layer cheese slices evenly across the bottom slice to cover edge to edge. Add any optional fillings like ham, turkey, tomato, or caramelized onions on top of the cheese.
  3. Top and butter again: Place the middle layer of roll slices on top and repeat by adding more cheese and optional fillings if desired. Finish with the top layer of rolls. Brush the tops generously with melted butter and sprinkle lightly with sea salt or garlic powder for added flavor.
  4. Bake or skillet cook: For baked sliders, place assembled sliders on a sheet pan and bake in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for 10–12 minutes until the tops are golden brown and the cheese is melted. Alternatively, cook the sliders in a buttered skillet over medium heat, pressing gently with a spatula for 2-3 minutes on each side until golden and melty.
  5. Serve: Remove sliders from oven or skillet and serve warm. These sliders make great appetizers or an easy meal alongside your favorite sides.

Notes

  • Using a serrated knife helps slice through the soft rolls cleanly.
  • Feel free to mix different types of cheese for extra flavor.
  • Optional fillings like ham, turkey, caramelized onions, or pesto add delicious variety.
  • If baking, make sure the oven is fully preheated to ensure even melting of cheese.
  • For extra crispiness, brush the top layers with plenty of melted butter.
  • Skillet cooking requires careful flipping to avoid tearing the rolls.
