Description

This recipe provides a simple and quick method to make gluten-free wonton wrappers at home using a gluten-free all-purpose flour blend, eggs, and water. The dough is kneaded until smooth, rested briefly, then rolled out and cut into perfect squares, ideal for wrapping your favorite fillings. These wonton wrappers are perfect for gluten-sensitive individuals seeking fresh, homemade wrappers for soups, dumplings, or appetizers.

Ingredients

Wonton Wrappers

  • 1 cup gluten-free all-purpose flour blend (ensure it contains xanthan gum; add 1/4 teaspoon xanthan gum if not)
  • 2 pinches kosher salt
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature, beaten
  • 2 tablespoons warm water, plus more if needed
  • Extra gluten-free flour for dusting

Instructions

  1. Mix dry ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together the gluten-free flour blend and kosher salt until evenly combined.
  2. Combine egg mixture: In a separate bowl, mix the beaten eggs with the warm water. Slowly stir this egg mixture into the flour blend until a sticky dough forms.
  3. Knead dough: Gently knead the dough in the bowl until it becomes smooth and uniform. If the dough feels dry, add water one teaspoon at a time until it holds together well.
  4. Rest dough: Cover the bowl with a damp towel and let the dough rest for 10 minutes to allow moisture to distribute evenly and improve pliability.
  5. Roll out dough: Lightly dust a clean work surface with extra gluten-free flour to prevent sticking. Roll the rested dough as thinly as possible, about 1/8 inch thickness.
  6. Cut wrappers: Using a pizza cutter or sharp knife, cut the rolled dough into approximately 4-inch squares, forming the wonton wrappers.
  7. Use or store wrappers: Use the wonton wrappers immediately for your recipe or cover them with a damp cloth to keep them from drying out until ready to use.

Notes

  • If your gluten-free flour blend does not contain xanthan gum, be sure to add 1/4 teaspoon to help with dough elasticity.
  • You can add additional water in small increments if the dough is too dry to knead smoothly.
  • Resting the dough is key for better rolling and texture of the wrappers.
  • These wrappers can be used for steaming, frying, or boiling depending on your wonton recipe.
  • Gluten-free wraps can be fragile; handle gently when folding and cooking.
