Description

This Garlic Flatbread recipe is a quick and easy no-knead, no-dough method using a liquid batter. Perfectly flavored with minced garlic, coriander, and a hint of butter, this flatbread is cooked on a stovetop for a soft, flavorful, and fluffy accompaniment to any meal.

Ingredients

Dry Ingredients

  • 200 g All-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp Salt

Wet Ingredients

  • 380 ml Water
  • 1 tbsp Melted unsalted butter

Flavorings

  • 1 tbsp Minced garlic
  • 2.5 tbsp Chopped coriander
  • 1 tsp Cooking oil (for frying pan)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Batter: In a container, combine the all-purpose flour, salt, minced garlic, and water. Mix thoroughly until you get a smooth liquid batter without lumps.
  2. Add Butter and Coriander: Stir in the melted unsalted butter and chopped coriander into the batter and mix well to evenly distribute the flavors.
  3. Heat the Pan: Place a pan over medium heat and add a teaspoon of cooking oil, spreading it evenly to prevent sticking during frying.
  4. Cook the Flatbread: Using a large spoon, scoop about two half spoonfuls of batter and pour it into the heated pan to form a small round flatbread.
  5. First Side Frying: Fry the batter for 1 to 2 minutes on medium heat until small bubbles start to appear and the underside is lightly browned.
  6. Flip and Cook Other Side: Turn the flatbread to the other side and fry for another 1 to 2 minutes until cooked.
  7. Alternate Sides: Flip the flatbread back and forth 2 to 3 times, watching for bubbling on the surface. This ensures even cooking and fluffiness.
  8. Increase Heat if Necessary: When bubbles appear prominently, increase the heat to high to cook through and develop larger bubbles, enhancing texture.
  9. Repeat for Remaining Batter: Remove the cooked flatbread and repeat the process with the remaining batter until all flatbreads are made.

Notes

  • Ensure the batter is smooth and slightly runny for easy spreading in the pan.
  • Adjust heat as needed to avoid burning while making sure flatbreads cook through.
  • You can add finely chopped green chilies or herbs for extra flavor variations.
  • Serve flatbreads warm with dips, curries, or as a snack on their own.
