Description

Indulge in these delightful Chocolate Puff Pastries—flaky, golden puff pastry squares filled with rich semi-sweet chocolate, perfect for a quick and elegant dessert or snack. Crisp on the outside and decadently gooey inside, they’re easy to make and sure to impress any chocolate lover.

Ingredients

Pastry

  • 1 sheet frozen puff pastry, thawed

Filling

  • 4 ounces semi-sweet baking chocolate

Egg Wash

  • 1 egg
  • 1 tablespoon water

Optional

  • 1 tablespoon coarse sugar for sprinkling

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside to prevent sticking and ensure even baking.
  2. Prepare Puff Pastry: Lay the thawed puff pastry sheet flat on a clean cutting board. Cut it into six equal rectangular pieces for uniform sizes.
  3. Add Chocolate: Place the semi-sweet baking chocolate pieces on the left side of each rectangle, distributing the chocolate evenly among the six pieces.
  4. Fold Pastry: Carefully fold each puff pastry rectangle over the chocolate side, sealing the edges gently to enclose the filling. Place the folded pastries on the prepared baking sheet.
  5. Apply Egg Wash: In a small bowl, whisk together the egg and 1 tablespoon of water. Using a pastry brush, lightly brush the tops of each puff pastry to achieve a beautiful golden finish when baked. Optionally sprinkle coarse sugar over the tops for added texture and sweetness.
  6. Bake: Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for 20-22 minutes or until the puff pastry is puffed up and golden brown.
  7. Cool and Serve: Remove from oven and allow the pastries to cool on the countertop for 10 minutes before serving to let the filling set slightly and avoid burns.

Notes

  • Make sure the puff pastry is well thawed but still cold for easiest handling.
  • You can substitute semi-sweet chocolate with dark or milk chocolate based on preference.
  • Ensure the edges are sealed well to prevent chocolate from leaking during baking.
  • The egg wash makes the pastry golden and shiny; don’t skip this step for the best appearance.
  • Serve warm for the most decadent experience as the chocolate will be melty inside.
