Description
Oven-baked and irresistibly crispy, these chicken goujons are a healthier homemade alternative to frozen versions. Simple to prepare, family-friendly, and perfect for dipping.
Ingredients
600 g (1.3 lb) chicken breast, skinless and boneless (about 4 chicken breasts)
50 g (2 oz) plain flour
1 tsp paprika
2 medium free-range eggs, beaten
100 g (3.5 oz) breadcrumbs
Oil for greasing
Sea salt and freshly ground black pepper
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 200 ℃ (400 °F fan), 220 ℃ (425 °F conventional), or Gas Mark 7.
- Slice the chicken breasts into finger-shaped strips, about 2–3 cm wide.
- In a small bowl, combine the plain flour, paprika, salt, and pepper.
- Coat each chicken strip by dipping it first into the flour mixture, then into the beaten eggs, and finally into the breadcrumbs.
- Alternatively, place the chicken pieces in a large lidded Tupperware container, add the flour and shake, then add the egg and shake again, followed by the breadcrumbs and one final shake.
- Arrange the coated chicken strips on a greased baking sheet.
- Bake for 20–23 minutes, or until cooked through. If the pieces are small, start checking at 15 minutes.
Notes
- Use Panko breadcrumbs for an extra crispy coating.
- Swap paprika with smoked paprika or cayenne pepper for a spicier kick.
- Air-fry the goujons for an even crispier texture.
- Add grated Parmesan to the breadcrumb mixture for extra flavor.
- Serve with a variety of dips like honey mustard, garlic mayo, or BBQ sauce.
