Description
A vibrant and easy-to-make blueberry syrup bursting with berry flavor—ideal for topping pancakes, waffles, desserts, or mixing into beverages.
Ingredients
2 cups blueberries (fresh or frozen)
1 cup granulated sugar
½ cup water
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1 tablespoon cornstarch (optional, for thickening)
2 tablespoons water (to mix with cornstarch)
Instructions
- Combine blueberries, sugar, and ½ cup water in a saucepan over medium heat; stir gently.
- Bring to a gentle boil, stirring occasionally until sugar dissolves.
- Lower heat and simmer for 10–15 minutes, lightly mashing berries to release juices.
- (Optional) Strain the syrup through a fine-mesh sieve to remove solids for a smooth texture.
- (Optional) Return to heat. Mix 1 tablespoon cornstarch with 2 tablespoons water and stir into the syrup until thickened.
- Remove from heat and let cool.
- Transfer to a sealed jar and refrigerate until ready to use.
Notes
- Use frozen blueberries if fresh aren’t available—no need to thaw.
- Adjust sweetness by altering sugar amount or using natural sweeteners like honey or maple syrup.
- Omit cornstarch if a thinner syrup is preferred.
- For extra flavor, add lemon zest or spices during cooking.
