Description

Crispy and flavorful Air Fryer Sweet Potato Tater Tots made with mashed sweet potatoes, aromatic spices, and crunchy panko breadcrumbs. These tater tots are a healthier alternative to traditional versions, cooked to perfection in the air fryer for a golden, crispy exterior and soft, tender inside. Perfect as a snack or side dish, served with ranch dressing for dipping.

Ingredients

Sweet Potato Mixture

  • 2 Cups sweet potatoes (cooked and mashed to puree)
  • ½ Teaspoon ground cumin
  • ½ Teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ Teaspoon smoked paprika
  • ½ Teaspoon salt
  • ½ Cup panko breadcrumbs
  • Fresh thyme leaves (optional)

For Serving

  • Flaky sea salt (optional)
  • Ranch dressing (for dipping)

Instructions

  1. Mix sweet potato mixture: In a large bowl, combine the mashed sweet potatoes, ground cumin, garlic powder, smoked paprika, salt, and panko breadcrumbs. Mix thoroughly until well combined. If desired, stir in some fresh thyme leaves for added flavor.
  2. Roll into tater tots: Take a tablespoon of the sweet potato mixture and roll it into a small, round tater tot shape. Repeat this process with the remaining mixture to form multiple tots.
  3. Arrange in air fryer: Place the tater tots in the air fryer basket in a single layer, making sure to leave a little space between each tot for even cooking and crisping.
  4. Air fry the tots: Set the air fryer to 400°F (200°C). Cook the tater tots for 5 minutes, then carefully flip each tot to the other side and continue cooking for another 5 minutes. If they are not crispy enough, continue air frying for an additional 5 to 10 minutes, checking frequently to avoid burning.
  5. Serve: Once crispy and golden, remove the tater tots from the air fryer. Sprinkle with flaky sea salt if desired and serve alongside ranch dressing for dipping. Enjoy warm.

Notes

  • Use cooked and cooled sweet potatoes for best texture and easier shaping.
  • If the mixture feels too wet, add a bit more panko breadcrumbs to help bind.
  • Flipping the tater tots halfway ensures even browning and crispiness.
  • These tater tots can be kept warm in a low oven if making large batches.
  • For a vegan option, use vegan-friendly ranch dressing or other dips.
