Description

These easy 2 Ingredient Donuts are a quick and delicious treat made with just self-rising flour and plain yogurt. Perfectly fried until golden brown, these donuts are light, fluffy, and can be enjoyed plain or with your favorite toppings. Ready in just 15 minutes, they make a great homemade snack or dessert.

Ingredients

Dry Ingredients

  • 1 cup (125 g) self-rising flour

Wet Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup (4 oz/113 g) plain whole milk yogurt (or vanilla yogurt)

For Frying

  • Canola, vegetable, or olive oil (for frying, about 2 inches deep in pan)

Instructions

  1. Heat the Oil: Add about 2 inches of your chosen oil (canola, vegetable, or olive) to a medium saucepan. Heat the oil over medium heat until it reaches between 335°F (168°C) and 350°F (177°C), which is perfect for frying the donuts evenly.
  2. Mix the Dough: In a medium mixing bowl, combine the self-rising flour and plain yogurt. Use a spatula to mix thoroughly until the dough is fully combined and sticky, making sure no dry flour lumps remain.
  3. Shape and Fry the Donuts: Once the oil is hot, use a 1 tablespoon cookie scoop to scoop the dough. Smooth the surface of each dough ball to maintain a round shape, then gently release it into the hot oil. Be careful not to overcrowd the pan—fry in batches if needed. The donuts will float; if any sink, gently loosen them from the bottom. Cook the donuts on each side until golden brown, flipping halfway through for even cooking.
  4. Drain and Cool: Remove the donuts from the oil using a slotted spoon or fry utensil, placing them onto a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil. Allow donuts to cool slightly until they are no longer too hot to handle.
  5. Add Toppings (Optional): When the donuts are cool enough, roll them in sugar or your preferred donut toppings. Alternatively, enjoy them plain for a simple, tasty treat.

Notes

  • Use self-rising flour for best results, as it already contains the leavening agents necessary for the donuts to rise.
  • If you don’t have whole milk yogurt, plain low-fat yogurt can be substituted, but results may be slightly less rich.
  • Maintain the oil temperature between 335°F and 350°F to ensure proper frying; too low and donuts absorb oil, too high and they burn quickly.
  • Work in small batches to prevent crowding, which can lower oil temperature and produce greasy donuts.
  • Donuts are best eaten fresh but can be stored in an airtight container for up to one day.
